Law School Personal Statements

There’s only one thing worse than having to write a law school personal statement and that’s having to read one.  Put yourself in the place of a law school admissions officer.  You know that the majority of applicants want to practice law for reasons that having nothing to do with truth, justice, or the American way.  You read essay after essay hoping to get some sense of the people behind the applications, and instead you get the same boring, prefabricated personal statement.  Justice.  A passion for law.  Maybe a lame anecdote about volunteer work or the debate club.  Your eyes glaze over and you start to skim.

Part of the problem is the persistent mythology that law school statements don’t ever matter.  Now don’t misunderstand, in some cases they really don’t.  If your undergraduate GPA and LSAT score are considerably higher or lower than the median scores of your fellow applicants, your fate may be sealed before your personal statement is even written.  But for students who are on the cusp or for those applying to competitive law schools where there’s no such thing as a sure thing, the personal statement may be their only opportunity to put a face to their test scores and transcripts, to become something more than a data set on the LSDAS report.

At Flashpoint, we believe that a well written personal statement is the narrative thread that transforms an application into something more than the sum of its parts.  As a client, you will enjoy the chance to work one-on-one with a world class writer or editor to develop an overall admissions strategy and craft a personal statement that highlights your experience and abilities, a first rate piece of writing that works in conjunction with the rest of your application.  We write and edit, but we also do a whole lot more.  Our goal is to work with our clients individually to change the way they’re seen by law school admissions committees.  We want you to stand out from the crowd.

Whether you are just getting started or you’re making a few tweaks to your final draft, we offer a package that can help you turn your law school personal statement from something good into something truly remarkable.  Flashpoint is a company that specializes in meeting the needs of individuals.  That’s why there’s no limit to the amount of interaction you can have with your writer or editor.  It’s also why we don’t stop working until you’re satisfied.
